The Iowa City New Horizons Band (ICNHB) was founded in January 1995. Our mission is to provide the opportunity for all persons age 50 and older to learn and make music. In addition to the band itself, the ICNHB will encourage entry-level group-music opportunities for members and nonmembers alike and facilitate the many current self-formed ensembles and those that will emerge. Our atmosphere is one of casual comraderie mixed with a passion for making beautiful music!
Our partners in fulfilling our mission are the College of Education Music Education Program, the School of Music, West Music and the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center. We have approximately 70 members in our band ensemble and usually perform three times each year. We are a member of the New Horizons International Music Association, an organization comprised of nearly 200 bands, orchestras, choruses and ensembles.
After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

We'll give it another try next summer!
The band is not rehearsing in-person until 2021, at least.
But, using Zoom and SmartMusic, rehearsals continue from home.
Visit the Performances-Calendar page for the latest information.
Conditions in the area will dictate when we can resume regular rehearsals.
2020 was the bands 25th anniversary.
Creation of an anniversary video was one of the projects that was delayed due to covid, but no longer!
